12 Angels and Social Entrpreneurship

The 12 Angels helped launch Wonderland Center. Wonderland Center was founded by Alex Shohet, Howard C. Samules and Bernadine Fried.

The 12 Angels’ organization fosters entrepreneurship in the recovery community. Our organization is made up of entrepreneurs, investors and executives who believe business can be a force of social change. Since Capitalism is the fuel of growth and opportunity, the 12 Angels’ members are “Capitalists with Heart”.

Our efforts create jobs and increase productivity for men and women recovering from alcoholism and addiction. The 12 Angels members’ invest in businesses, provide business advisory services free of charge and make donations to reduce the harm addictive disorders cause to individuals, their families and our society.

Wonderland Center currently employs 40 recovering addicts and alcoholics; providing above market wages, health care and an employee education program. Wonderland Center is a advised company of Pacific Community Ventures which invests in companies that provide jobs to economically disadvantaged employees. Wonderland Center is now an internationally recognized treatment center that is a sustainable business and it gives back. Help us reduce the $340 Billion lost by the United States each year to alcoholism and addiction. Visit our websites at http://www.wonderlandcenter.com or http://www.12angels.org to learn more.

Integration vs.Isolation?

At Wonderland we know addiction is life threatening and incredibly important to address immediately. Our treatment philosophy is that of integration not isolation. We don’t minimize the severity of addictive disorders. All of the staff has suffered the horrible pain of losing family members, friends or associates to this disease. Our first priority is to stop active addiction and provide enough containment for recovery to begin. The question is “do you need to be on an island, in the mountains or in the desert to begin your recovery”?

Work and Recovery?

One of the biggest challenges with the recovery process is “Work”. Work is an incredibly important part of recovery. We work with clients with a diverse set of work situations.

Some of our clients are financially fortunate; making money is not required for them to pay their bills. We treat entrepreneurs, executives and professionals who have achieved financial and professional success in their work lives.

The challenge for this group of clients coming into treatment may include:

1. Diminished professional reputation
2. Lost time away from their profession or business
3. Missing upcoming events, projects or deadlines
4. Lost income or opportunities
5. Contractual obligations and commitments

Most treatment centers have a one size fits all philosophy of treatment. There attitude is set aside your work life and come into treatment. Faced with this choice many addicted people choose not to go into treatment. Many people needing treatment put off going into treatment because of this approach. At Wonderland we offer individualized treatment programs specifically tailored to each individual’s needs. We encourage recovery as soon as possible. Don’t wait.
